3000 HP Loco Hauls It All!

Much like the U28B it succeeded, the versatile GE U30B was designed to be equally adept at hauling fast freights or heavy drags.

Designers squeezed 3,000 horsepower from the same 16-cylinder engine used in the 2,800-horsepower U28B, thus making it a direct competitor to EMD's GP40.

Almost 300 U30Bs were produced for the U.S. market and many units remained in service into the 80s and 90s.

By 2006, only a handful remained, working for shortline and regional roads.
