Powered by an ALCO-MLW 251F prime mover, this little speedster looked and sounded sharp at the head-end of a set of matching LRC coaches and LRC club cars.

It could also be found heading up a wide variety of equipment, from VIA and ONR conventional steam-heated passenger cars to Amtrak’s Amfleet and Horizon cars.

The Amtrak LRC locomotive was used in the early 1980s on demonstration runs in the Northeast Corridor and in the Midwest whilst the VIA LRC locomotive powered VIA trains in the Corridor and the joint VIA-ONR “Northland” between Toronto and Kapuskasing, Ontario.

It also powered the International using Amtrak and VIA equipment between Toronto and Chicago.
