Municipal Pier Terminals are found at cargo piers throughout North America. These distinctive buildings are usually flanked by piers with railroad spurs and cranes which traverse their length. Traveling cranes unload cargo from ships onto the pier and stevedores wheel it inside through the large roll-up doors that run the length of the building. Inside the Municipal Pier Terminal, dockworkers transfer cargo to freight cars and trucks. On your model railroad, the HO scale Municipal Pier Terminal makes a great destination for boxcars, reefers and other cars. Many ports have several similar pier terminals on adjacent piers, so adding more than one Municipal Pier Terminal to your waterfront district is easy by just changing the decals.
